Sociology through the Persistence Ratio

These notes apply the Fractal Persistence Equation (FPE) to households, workplaces, and communities — the \(L+1\) and \(L+2\) layers between individual psychology and nation-state geopolitics.

They are companion essays, not a textbook. For the full derivation and philosophical context, see:

Vocabulary (social layer)

FPE term In groups / organisations
\(P_{in}\eta\) Productive coordination, fair division of labour, clear mandates
Low \(\eta\) Blame theatre, meeting load without decisions, performative work
\(\mathcal{D}_{KL}\) Official narrative vs floor reality; “culture deck” vs shop floor
\(\Gamma\) Grievance backlog, silos, family secrets, unresolved roles
\(\Phi\) Members as substrate — health, skills, trust, tacit know-how
\(\Psi\) Market, state, supply chain, alliance that shelters the group
\(\omega\) Bureaucracy, ritual complexity, rules nobody follows
\(\mathcal{R} \ge 1\) The household / firm / movement still exists as a distinct node

How to use these docs

Each essay follows the same spine:

  1. Phenomenon — what sociology and org theory already describe.
  2. FPE mapping — which terms move, and in which direction.
  3. Mechanism — why the pattern is a stable attractor or a collapse trajectory.
  4. Interruption — lower \(\mathcal{D}_{KL}\), lower \(\Gamma\) (or decouple).

Nothing here replaces therapy, HR law, or labour organising. The point is to show that many “cultural” or “structural” labels are often accounting labels for how a collective node is managing \(\mathcal{R}\) in real time.
